  As a park ranger for the State of North Carolina I worked in a multi-functional job that involved education and interpretation, natural resource management, law enforcement, and park operations. I give programs on various topics to school groups, campers and civic groups. As a ranger I performed various resource management duties such as hazardous tree removal, mowing fields, control burns, invasive species removal, and the installation of duck boxes and bird houses. I patroled the park boundaries, water and roads by foot, boat, ATV and patrol vehicle. My job involved search and rescue on land and water, and various types of emergency medical response. I was responsible for the supervision of seasonal employees, and the correct balance of money receipts for fees collected at the park.As a park ranger II, I supervised 1 permanent park ranger II and 2 seasonal employees. I was responsible for the operation of a campground with 80 campsites and group area, and a day use area with swimming, boat ramps and a community building. As a park ranger I was a certified peace officer with authority to carry firearms and make arrests. Show less

I have received an Exemplary Service Award in 2005, and in 2006 I was nominated by numerous undergraduate students for an Excellence in Service Award. I am responsible for the management of the bike patrol program. I worked as a Community Service Officer giving safety programs and providing crime prevention information for the campus. The uniform law enforcement agency is charged with the responsibility of protecting the state government complex in downtown Raleigh, NC and responding to calls for state owned property with the city As a police officer for the State Capitol Police Department I provided security and protection for state employees, state property and enforce state laws within Wake County. I conducted patrols by foot and vehicle as well as conducted traffic enforcement through the use of radar equipment. Other duties included dignitary protection, prisoner executions, and crime prevention programs for state employees, inaugural events, traffic accident investigation, and crowd management. I also assisted the training division with the instruction of in-service. I was the lead firearms instructor providing the primary instruction for all department members as well as coordinating range access. I was a field training officer assigned to train newly hired police officers in a structured training program. I was also a member of the State Capitol Police Color Guard.   As a District Security Officer for the United States Marshals Service I assist full-time US Marshals with court security and prisoner transport. I work along side US Marshals to ensure that Federal Court is safe and that federal prisoners are brought in and out of the courtroom. I am required to qualify with an off-duty handgun, and if necessary may carry an expandable baton, chemical aerosal or Taser. I am a certified firearms instructor through NC Training and Standards and I am proficient in the use of handguns, rifles and shotguns. I am well versed in the use of the Segway PT and mountain bike as alternative forms of patrol. I am proactive in community policing and look for ways to enhance the relationship of the police department to the customers of the airport and local community. As a law enforcement officer I initiated several community policing ideas which resulted in the reduction of law enforcement response to false alarms. I compiled a training program for the departmental all-terrain vehicle, which included writing lesson plans, developing and constructing a training course, and conducting all of the training. Our authority is derived from North Carolina General Statute 74E, and I am appointed as a Special Police Officer by the Attorney General of North Carolina. Special Police Officers have the same training and authority as municipal police officers anywhere in the state while on the real property of a current contract for service.   As a First Sergeant I will be responsible for the management and oversight of all training for the WakeMed Hospital Police Department. In addition to training, I author, develop and update departmental policies and procedures and develop lesson plans for the departmental training programs.I maintain training records according to standards set forth by the NC Law Enforcement Training and Standards Commission. I instruct classes in firearms, rapid deployment, armed intruder and field training officer courses. I manage recruiting and conduct background investigations for police officer and security officer candidates and I assist department detectives with criminal investigations as needed. I provide new hire orientation for all new officers during their first week at the department, and I am the manager of the Field Training Officer Program.I am responsible for all uniform, equipment, ammunition, weapons and radios, ordering supplies, as well as managing the quartermaster. This includes contacting and working with vendors, obtaining quotes, and making purchase orders. In addition to managing all equipment and purchasing, I assist with departmental vehicle maintenance, registration renewal, and vehicle procurement.I maintain my law enforcement certification and when needed provide coverage and supervision for shifts.
