      As a park ranger for the State of North Carolina I worked in a multi-functional job that involved education and interpretation, natural resource management, law enforcement, and park operations. I give programs on various topics to school groups, campers and civic groups. As a ranger I performed various resource management duties such as hazardous tree removal, mowing fields, control burns, invasive species removal, and the installation of duck boxes and bird houses. I patroled the park boundaries, water and roads by foot, boat, ATV and patrol vehicle. My job involved search and rescue on land and water, and various types of emergency medical response. I was responsible for the supervision of seasonal employees, and the correct balance of money receipts for fees collected at the park.As a park ranger II, I supervised 1 permanent park ranger II and 2 seasonal employees. I was responsible for the operation of a campground with 80 campsites and group area, and a day use area with swimming, boat ramps and a community building. As a park ranger I was a certified peace officer with authority to carry firearms and make arrests. Show less

I conducted patrols by foot and vehicle as well as conducted traffic enforcement through the use of radar equipment. Other duties included dignitary protection, prisoner executions, and crime prevention programs for state employees, inaugural events, traffic accident investigation, and crowd management. I also assisted the training division with the instruction of in-service. I was the lead firearms instructor providing the primary instruction for all department members as well as coordinating range access. I was a field training officer assigned to train newly hired police officers in a structured training program. I was also a member of the State Capitol Police Color Guard. In addition to training, I author, develop and update departmental policies and procedures and develop lesson plans for the departmental training programs.I maintain training records according to standards set forth by the NC Law Enforcement Training and Standards Commission. I instruct classes in firearms, rapid deployment, armed intruder and field training officer courses. I manage recruiting and conduct background investigations for police officer and security officer candidates and I assist department detectives with criminal investigations as needed. I provide new hire orientation for all new officers during their first week at the department, and I am the manager of the Field Training Officer Program.I am responsible for all uniform, equipment, ammunition, weapons and radios, ordering supplies, as well as managing the quartermaster. This includes contacting and working with vendors, obtaining quotes, and making purchase orders. In addition to managing all equipment and purchasing, I assist with departmental vehicle maintenance, registration renewal, and vehicle procurement.I maintain my law enforcement certification and when needed provide coverage and supervision for shifts.
