    • Dartmouth College

      Jan 2006 - Jan 2008
      Research Assistant

Performed molecular and cellular biology assays to endeavor to understand the control of fetal hemoglobin induction. The overall goal of the lab was to find a safer and more effective way to treat B-thalassemia in patients. Reactivating fetal hemoglobin could potentially compensate for deficiencies in active adult hemoglobin; however, control of fetal hemoglobin expression in mature organisms is not well understood. The compound 5-azacytadine was used to induce fetal hemoglobin expression in order to test hypotheses that evaluated potential control mechanisms.Department of Hematology and Oncology, Laboratory of Dr. Christopher Lowrey Show less

Updated study abroad program manuals to ensure accuracy. Assisted students and staff in submission of program applications. Spoke at college events on my experiences while abroad and fielded questions both at the podium and in the office.

    • University of Virginia

      Jan 2009 - Nov 2013
      Research Scientist

Performed immunological studies evaluating the viability of therapeutic targets in models of obesity, cancer, and acute inflammation. Expertise in studying cellular trafficking and chemokine regulation via assays such as flow cytometry, ELISA, and qPCR. Hypotheses centered on the role of the protein Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor (MIF) as a regulator of the immune response to various disease states. Concurrently executed studies examining the effects of the natural chemopreventive agent Sulforaphane within these disease models. Wrote and edited manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, research proposals, and grant applications.Acquired clinical experience through several rotations in clinical departments such as Surgical Pathology, Gynecology Oncology, and Radiation Oncology. Observed clinical visits, OR procedures, clinical trial administration, and specimen sign outs.
