    • IBM

      Jan 2005 - Jan 2015

As an Executive IT Architect in IBM's Sales & Distribution division I engaged with business leaders, developing Business Directions artefacts in order to identify key IT transformation programs required to support the Business Vision and Goals. Expanding on these artefacts, I could then identify the appropriate technology to be leveraged and lead technical teams to develop the conceptual designs for these IT programs, both tactically and strategically. While the proposals were IBM Technology focused, most were concentrated around the ability to provide improved business capability while retaining existing Legacy systems, many of which were not IBM technology. In this role I presented IBM's Technology Outlook and IBM's technology proposals to CIO's, CEO's, COO's, CFO's and other Heads of Business for IBM's customers across Banking, Insurance, Telecom, Utility, Retail, Transport and Construction industries. Show less As IBM's Chief Architect on the Westpac Integrated Account, I was IBM's Head of Technology, providing Architecture Governance and Technical Leadership for the infrastructure environments to both Westpac and IBM.I was the IBM representative on a number of Westpac Business Transformation program boards chaired by the Westpac CIO and I helped to develop a number of the business cases to support the introduction of many of the programs. My key achievements in this role were:- Technical lead for the resigning of the IT Outsourcing Agreement (3 year +1 extension for IBM)- Turned around a troubled Enterprise Security Program by introducing a joint IT Governance Board- Produced a Technology Roadmap providing a 12 month, 3 year and 5 year outlook for IT transformation and technology refresh based on input from the Westpac Business Direction (Vision, Mission, Goals).- Used a Failure Mode Effects Analyis (FMEA) approach to capture and document single points of failure within key Westpac Banking applications. Show less As IBM's Chief Architect for the Telstra Integrated Account I was the technology lead for the transition and transformation program for the IT Outsourcing contract that had been signed in early 2007.I introduced and co-chaired a Technical Design Authority with the Telstra Head of IT Operations. This Design Authority governed the introduction of new technology into the Telstra IT environment and signed off on any new IT Standards. At the end of 2009 I was the technical lead for IBM's contract renegotiation. My key achievements during this time were:- Introduced the concept of pattern based infrastructure builds that Telstra's application development teams could Self Service from a Catalog, that formed the basis of the outsourcing contract renewal- Produced a yearly Technology Roadmap providing a 12 month, 3 year and 5 year outlook for IT transformation based on input from the Telstra business- Leveraged a Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) to provide structure and governance around the IBM Architecture teams. Show less I was a core member of IBM's strategy and design team for the development of its On Demand (Utility Computing) architecture that has since formed the basis of IBM's Cloud Reference Architecture.Key achievements in this role include:- Designed a flexible, component modelled, Service Management architecture with options for key technical decision points to cater for local requirements resulting in 60% increase of Sales Revenue in Australia. Resold in Australia, Japan, Korea, India and Singapore- Reduction of infrastructure deployment times by 60% through standardisation and virtualisation for international airline.- Consolidation of Service Management systems to a shared service (cloud) model giving operational cost reductions over three years with a twelve-month project cost recovery. Sept 2017 - Sept 2019
      Location & Connectivity Services Architect

As the Enterprise Architect responsible for the Network Services strategy, I provide technical leadership and direction to the Service Owner for the Network Service at Origin Energy.Key to this strategy has been the integration of the Operational Network (OT) and the Information Network (IT) environments and an alignment to the company’s security controls. My major contribution to the network strategy, in alignment to the business drivers of infrastructure cost reduction, Cloud First, and reduced risk of Cyber Threat, I solutioned a Software Defined WAN (SDWAN) construct to enforce network automation and a Zero Trust network model. This solution was key to Origin realising the IT/OT integration and the integration of physical and virtual (cloud) networks, that operated as a single network. As network is directly linked to Cyber, my role was also heavily aligned to setting the Cyber and IT Risk strategy and associated programs. This also required management of the internal and third party suppliers of network and cyber operations. Show less
