  Student Placement Energy Engineer

  PM Group is a professional, multi-disciplinary Engineering firm that develops solutions for complex projects.I worked as part of the Building Services Department as part of my Work Placement Programme.I carried out building energy investigations to identify opportunities for minimizing the energy consumption and increasing the efficiency of the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system (HVAC) in pharma buildings. Resulting from these investigations, proposed recommendations for energy reduction were summarized in reports.I was involved on a greenfield design project for a high containment pharmaceutical facility. I experienced the HVAC design process as well as the controls (BMS) system. I gained an understanding of ATEX and FM Global requirements for ventilation rates and BMS instruments. I conducted a preliminary BREEAM assessment of a proposed project in the Czech Republic. I researched updates being made through BREEAM International 2013 scheme and the changes compared to the 2009 scheme.I carried out an energy monitoring study as part of a high level feasibility study in relation to energy reduction measures. This feasibility was responsible for the implementation of a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant. As part of the study the generation and distribution of the following utilities was examined: electricity,steam,LPHW,Water,Compressed Air,Chilled Water and Process Cooling Water.I carried out renewable energy technology feasibility studies for commercial clients. These reports included a selection of options with estimated paybacks, cost implication, operating costs, constructability and operation impact assessments.
