    • 122 Conversations, Person to Person: Art Beyond Borders

      122 Conversations, is an artist-led project based on the art of engagement and derived from interconnection and cross-cultural dialogue. The goal of the 6 year endeavor was to meaningfully connect individuals across the globe from six diverse countries, cultures and communities. The project celebrated humanity, human connection, and the radical and political act of caring. Created on lightweight, portable Tyvek®, the artwork shown here represents six years of planning and creating and 60 Skype or in ­person interviews involving ten residents from each of the five sister cities of Duluth, including the mayor of each city. The large ­scale paintings were created in my studio and were inspired by the spirited interview exchanges. Each of the artworks depict an interpretative vision of the conversations that include faces, words, and descriptions of the experiences that relate to the individuals involved. Show less

      The I Love You Institute is an artist-led site-specific project urgently working with communities to creatively address today’s world. We combine art making, social justice, radical kindness, and relational listening to normalize saying “I Love You” as an alternative to division and conflict.The aim of the I Love You Institute is to facilitate a series of events that emphasizes connecting with each other through the co-creation of art using relational exchange & creative dialogue. As a nomadic, nimble initiative, the I Love You Institute works in a variety of community sites--public & private. Using established & new networks and focusing on health & wellness, we create one-off events, performances & interventions. Each site is developed & produced as a site-specific experience, working in collaboration with the hosting partners. Intentionally open-ended, the events are responsive to the public & each site.
