      - Resided and worked in a rural village for two years to facilitate community development and cultural exchange- Promoted preventative health practices within community including topics selected by the Senegalese Ministry of Health: prevention/treatment of malaria; water, sanitation and hygiene; maternal and infant health; and reproductive health- Helped to build long-term capacity in the community, specifically working with illiterate and innumerate populations, and to serve as a catalyst for collaborative development among my network of partners- Monitored and evaluated all activities quarterlyRelevant Projects:• Training of Trainers: - Awarded and maintained a long-term grant to fulfill the goals of this project - Through extensive survey and analysis, this project was designed to address the health concerns resulting from the diaspora of herders in the community (the effects of physical distance on the health status of individuals) - 14-month project included an in-depth and long-term training of eight community representatives on health-specific topics: hand washing and hygiene; nutrition; infant and child health; malaria; family planning - Representatives were trained on health topics, public speaking skills and effective teaching methods. - Acquired skills were exercised in monthly trainings within each of the eight communities - Project aimed to transfer relevant and applicable knowledge and skills to both elected representatives, as well as the community at large – to ultimately improve the health status and health sovereignty of the entire community• Music: - Wrote and performed a song about the importance of hand washing in Pulaar (live and on the local radio) - Worked with a local musician to create songs relating to health (hand washing, nutrition and malaria), which have also been performed live and on local radio - Filmed, produced, edited and distributed music videos of these songs Show less
