The legend is well-known in Madagascar, but it seems that few formal studies on the topic have been conducted. In order to obtain information from primary sources, Ms. Ewins spent a total of about three weeks in the Toliara region to conduct fieldwork. In her paper, Ms. Ewins uses her experiences and research findings as the basis for her analysis of Malagasy oral traditions. Ms. Ewins has done very credible work in gathering information about Fihamy and putting it into context. Her paper is both well-written and insightful. Through her ISP, Ms. Ewins has demonstrated her ability to carry out independent field work and her project meets all of [the School for International Training's] requirements.-Roland Pritchard, 2005Academic Advisor & Program Coordinator Show less
