    • Camp America

      Jun 2013 - Aug 2013
      Camp Counsellor

During the summer of 2013 I was hired by Camp America as a fishing instructor, where I spent a total of 3 months in the United States at Camp Getschow. I was stationed in the heart of the North Woods in Northern Wisconsin where I was tasked with the job of supervising, managing and caring for over 60 underprivileged children from the backstreets and slums of Chicago. An incredible experience and highly rewarding. I was able to pass on my knowledge and coaching methods to these children, some of which had never picked up a fishing rod in their lives, and to see them catching fish by the end of their time at camp, I experienced a sensation that money simply cannot buy. Aside from my fishing lessons, I planned and delivered evening activities and helped the other counsellors during my free period so I was always active and on hand to assist wherever possible. I helped nurture the kids' communication and behavioural skills as well as helping the more senior children becomes leaders within the camp. During the early stages of the summer, I also completed the American Red Cross first responder course as well as becoming a certified lifeguard. Upon the completion of camp, I took advantage of the remaining weeks of my VISA and travelled around America with some of the other counsellors I'd met over the summer. I spent time exploring Chicago, before flying down to Miami, then onto Orlando and Washington DC before finishing in New York City. Managing my timescales and tight budget as efficiently as possible. • Coombe Abbey Hotel

      Sept 2013 - Aug 2015
      Bar Supervisor

I spent 2 years at Coombe Abbey Hotel in Coventry on a part time basis. I began as a barman, serving guests drinks behind the bar as well as adopting a number of other roles such as tray serving, setting up for weddings/events, and providing excellent customer service throughout. Towards the end of my time at Coombe I achieved supervisory status, my roles and responsibilities increased and it was often left to myself to train newer members of staff; showing them the ropes and how to present themselves in front of guests etc. Working at Coombe Abbey helped enhance my customer facing/customer service persona as well as providing many transferable skills and invaluable experience. • Camp America

      Jun 2014 - Aug 2014
      Senior Camp Counsellor

Following a successful stint at Camp Getschow the previous year, I was invited back as a returner after the camp director had deemed my knowledge, teaching, and overall contribution sufficient enough to warrant an invitation to return. An opportunity I could not turn down. My experience from 2013 was recognised and rewarded by the director who wanted me to help train the new members of staff as well as continue with my role as fishing instructor. With a wealth of camp experience behind me I was far more confident and articulate within my many roles and I was again able to provide a high level of supervision and care for the children at camp and once more deliver a fun, exciting and jam-packed summer for them. Following on from camp I again travelled around America, this time heading West to Los Angeles before renting a car and driving up the famous Pacific Cost Highway to San Francisco, squeezing in a trip to Yosemite National Park and ending with a stint in Las Vegas. I again had to work around a tight budget alongside putting a number of other skills into practice which included managing logistics, booking/renting transport, organising activities and liaising with contacts on the West coast to finalise arrangements for accommodation.
