It was established in 2002 by some inspired young students who had a further interest in economics than what the classroom has to offer. Now it aims to assemble the committed and talented economics students.The association consist of smaller groups, called "houses", which deal with given research fields. As a non-governmental, politically independent, and non-profit organisation AEGEE is open to students and young people from all faculties and disciplines. Founded in 1985 in Paris, today AEGEE has grown to a Network of 13000 friends, present in 200 cities in 40 countries all over Europe.AEGEE puts the idea of a unified Europe into practice. Operating without a national level, AEGEE brings 13000 students from 40 different countries directly in touch with each other.Currently, civic education is one of the four focus areas of AEGEE. The role of the working group is to prepare materials, educate the Network about civic education and make sure the organizations fulfil the stated objectives of the focus area.As a policy officer, I have written a Policy Paper on the European Citizens' Initiative, which presented the development of the work of the ECI initiated by AEGEE and evaluated the relevance and accessibility of this tool from a youth perspective.
