The site was strategically located within the City Centre to offer accessible public transport links allowing the students to access the University Campus’ across Curitiba. The concept of this project had the objective of welcoming students from any location and contributing to their professional academic lives, providing a social living, and facilitating the connection between city life and academic life, both inside and outside of the building. For this, a key focus was to give residents a feeling of integration within the building provided by the sense of visual permeability between the surrounding environment and this accommodation. The course consisted of two primary portfolio assignments: A Welcome Refugee Centre at Lampadusa (Italy) including a research visit to La Biennale Archittetura di Venezia 2016, and the Design of a Unique Landmark in the harbor of Piraeus (Greece) including a group analysis of the Oslo Harbor. The opportunity to study within this institution allowed me to visit site locations in both Italy and Greece, complimenting each project by adding a physical element to my conceptual designs. Additionally, the chance to work alongside international students with a variety of disciplinary backgrounds enhanced my personal ability to interact and successfully deliver projects with my colleagues. As the entirety of the course was in English, this year also allowed me to develop my English communication skills. Show less
