As the Human Resources Manager for UPS, I oversee HR process for more than 3,200 exempt and non-exempt employees, and direct the work of multiple supervisors in Central and Eastern Virginia. Partner with and advise senior management team on key human resource strategies and initiatives including: employee engagement, learning and development, performance management, succession planning, talent acquisition and development, and workforce planning. Provide consultation to senior leadership and business units in the areas of human resources regulations and policy, equal opportunity, employee relations and risk management situations. Additionally, implement compensation plans, including effective incentive programs that motivate strong associate performance. Perform job evaluations against performance metrics and determine potential bonus and promotional opportunities. Managers and employees excel when they are placed in environments with the tools necessary for success, and I provide classroom and on-the-job orientations to ensure they have a productive transition into the company. As employees progress throughout the organization, I perform job evaluations against performance metrics and work to have employees in positions that capitalize on their unique strengths. My key contributions include:- Played integral role in Mid-Atlantic District ranking No. 1 on the 2017 UPS Human Resources Domestic Balanced Scorecard, which includes areas such as cost, health and safety, workforce planning, and retention.- Reduced number of employee concerns by 50% year-over-year due to emphasizing employee engagement with management.- Raised more than $2M while serving on the Mid Atlantic United Way Committee by coordinating with communications team to plan and execute fundraising strategy.- Led district campaign to achieve 8.4 volunteer hours per employee, when previous high was 3 hours per employee. Show less In my role as the Comprehensive Health & Safety Supervisor, I made the well-being of team members my highest priority by establishing and reinforcing corporate safety processes that aligned with company and industry regulations. This included workforce injury and accident prevention measures that were developed and instituted by local non-management safety committees and their local management teams.I collaborated with management and non-management safety committees, where we reviewed protocols and continually took steps to improve our systems. My role provided the opportunity to coordinate efforts between the districts and divisions to maintain compliance with regulatory standards, keeping communication lines open between the parties and aligning their objectives. My key contributions included:- Led division to No. 1 ranking in health and safety compliance in 2014, a strong improvement from its 2011 ranking. - Promoted to Richmond Division after successfully managing the East Virginia Division from a high injury and accident-prone division to an effective safety-conscious culture. Show less As the Human Resources Supervisor, I directed hiring for 1,500 union and non-union employees, including recruiting, screening, and interviewing. To provide team members with a smooth transition into the company, I managed orientation and professional development activities that allowed seasoned employees to pass their knowledge on to new hires. I built strong relationships with university officials and career centers to provide a steady stream of talent into the organization. In addition, I allocated the recruiting budget in ways that efficiently targeted methods that reached top prospects.Other HR functions for this role included resolving employee disputes at the initial stages to reduce grievances and monetary payouts, and managing payroll and compensation to meet UPS internal, external, and statutory guidelines and to retain exceptional employees. My key contribution included:- Reduced turnover by creating an access database for HR Directors that presented managers with a greater sense of accountability in reducing their personnel turnover. Show less I served as the District Communications Supervisor for UPS, where I advised company leadership on how to effectively communicate key information to employees and implement strategies to improve production, volume development, safety, and employee relations. This included writing employee engagement content on business leads, company achievements, and health and safety plateaus — anything our team members needed to know to stay well-informed on the company and about how the work they did contributed to organizational goals. The role also allowed me the opportunity to allocate a high-dollar budget for annual management conferences, safe-drive banquets, and local business manager meetings. These gatherings all invested in our team and helped align leadership to move the company forward. My key contribution included:- Selected from an elite pool of communication supervisors to assist the Director of Diversity in implementing the first Women’s Business Resource Group aimed at the retention and advancement of women in the workplace, serving from July 2007 to March 2008.
