    • Lea Marston Hotel & Spa

      Sept 2011 - Jun 2016
      Food and Beverage Assistant

I was employed at this 4* hotel for almost 5 years, where I worked in a number of areas including the 2 rosette-awarded restaurant, the bar and during functions and events such as weddings, parties and conferences. As a result, I am well trained in different methods of service, from a very formal and personal style in the restaurant, to a more relaxed and friendly style in the bar, meaning I can adapt to different working environments based on what is required of me. Regardless of the area of work, I always composed myself very professionally. I regularly worked coherently as part of a team but also ran areas of service on my own. I also gained leadership skills from being shadowed by new members of staff and actively training them on the job. Show less

    • Camp Canadensis

      Jun 2014 - Aug 2014
      Specialist Counsellor

I spent 9 weeks working at a summer camp where I had two roles. Firstly, I was a climbing and high ropes counsellor where health and safety was a top priority to ensure the children, aged between 7 and 16, had an enjoyable time free from any harm. With some of the children, it required encouraging them to overcome a fear of heights or beliefs of "I can't do it". It also meant working with an international team of climbers to set up, maintain and operate the course. My second role was an in-bunk counsellor which involved looking after a group of 10 children, all 11 years old, at night, in the morning and during meal times. This had its difficult moments but I learnt how to deal with children who could be unruly and troublesome, without upsetting or angering them, which I’ve found to be transferable to people in everyday life. • Leeds University Union - Terrace Bar

      Apr 2015 - Mar 2019

After being promoted to supervisor at the Terrace Bar I was in charge of supervising a team of up to 15 bar assistants to ensure the effective running of the bar. This helped me to become a better leader, requiring me to be fair but sometimes firm when delegating tasks amongst the team and trying to get the most from each staff member. It also required me to think ahead and prepare accordingly to facilitate an efficient environment for fellow staff. My problem solving and customer service skills improved due to being the first senior point of contact for both customers and bar assistants. I also gained more hospitality skills such as floating tills, changing kegs and using radios to communicate with managers and security. Show less I worked as a bartender and waiter at the Terrace Bar in Leeds University Union. This included serving fellow students during a normal day and on club nights, and working events such as award ceremonies and the Teach First conference hosted at the union. This further strengthened my customer service ability and I received training in cocktail making. Working during club nights required me to handle large sums of money and taught me how to maintain a high level of service whilst also maximising revenue at busy periods. Show less
