  • “Diatoms as pollution Indicators – a part of Research Study” undertaken under the guidance of Professor T. V. Ramachandra, Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore.The project looked at the pollution level of Yelahanka Lake, Bengaluru. This was done by both chemical and biological methods. Chemical analysis was done by performing various tests like Biological Oxygen Demand, Chemical Oxygen Demand, etc. Biological analysis was done by identifying the various species of diatoms present in the lake. This gave information on the level of pollution and also the possible cause of pollution in the lake. Show less

  “Protein Isolation and Protein Purification of Plasmodium falciparum lactate dehydrogenase” undertaken under the guidance of Professor. P.N. Rangarajan, Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore.The project looked at transforming a bacterial expression plasmid encoding Plasmodium falciparum lactate dehydrogenase into Escherichia coli , checking for its expression and then purification. Two strains of Escherichia coli were used to compare transformation and lactate dehydrogenase protein quantity. Show less

  This internship was under the aegis of the summer research fellowship programme of the Indian academy of Science.“Parasitic Wasp Infestation of Drosophila melanogaster as a model system for transgenerational epigenetic inheritance” undertaken under the guidance of Dr. Rakesh Mishra, Chief Scientist, Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Hyderabad. The project looked at finding out which larval stage of Drosophila melanogaster is more susceptible to wasp infestation by Leptopilina boulardi. Second and third instar larvae were infested with Leptopilina boulardi in similar conditions and the efficiency of infestation was calculated. . This was a preliminary experiment to check whether Drosophila melanogaster can become tolerant to infestation by Leptopilina boulardi by repeated infestation. The hypothesis being that it can occur due to transgenerational epigenetic inheritance. The various stages of spermatogenesis in Drosophila melanogaster were also observed during the project.   “ BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations as predictors of breast cancer in Indian population” undertaken under the guidance of Dr. Utpal Tatu, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru.The aim of the project was to make a comparatively cheaper BRCA1 diagnostic method using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Blood samples from histologically proven breast cancer patients were taken. DNA extraction, enzymes, buffers and primers used in polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were optimized. Gel electrophoresis was done to check the results. Different DNA purification kits and polymerase enzymes were tested. Optimization of the PCR and standardization was done. Show less

  “ Overexpression of Zinc Finger Protein 217 in breast cancer mammalian cell lines ” under the guidance of Dr. Francesca Aguilo, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Biosciences/ Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine, Umeå University (UmU) Umeå.The aim of the project was to generate two stable cell lines expressing a FLAG tagged ZNF217. Full length human CDS was amplified by PCR and inserted into a FLAG cloning vector by restriction digestion and ligation. MCF10A and MCF7 cell lines were subjected to lentiviral transduction and infection with the FLAG-ZNF217 plasmid. Antibiotic selection was done to select the cells that were infected. Show less

  I have completed my PhD as part of the CARe PhD program working under the supervision of Dr. Joost P. Schanstra, Dr. Julie Belliere and Dr. Jean Sebastien Saulnier Blache in the renal fibrosis lab at the Institute of Metabolic and Cardiovascular Diseases of the University of Toulouse III Paul Sabatier. I worked on the molecular characterization of immune changes using single cell analysis in the development of acute kidney injury and potential associated differences in the elderly population.
