This project was a 3 phase project. As the coordinator of the results and hotbag portion of the project, our plan was to first empower women by creating employment for the production of the 200 CookSISter sets. These sets are insulated cookers which reduced cooking energy consumption by up to 50% which save money, time, the environment and so much more. Then these sets were be loaned to households in the community. Savings from the CookSISters were encouraged through a savings scheme. The savings generated could be used for improving families’ health (investing in a vegetable garden, purchasing more nutritious foods) or in other areas that need assistance. The sustainability and the effectiveness of the project was monitored and evaluated with results presented in the September conference. We aimed for a practice based approach to social innovation utilizing the microeconomy of benefit and poverty reduction. Show less
