      Formative experience from 1980 to1982 included tenure as Plant Metallurgist at Central Foundry Division, General Motors, Defiance, Ohio; - from 1982 to 1984 as Manager of R&D, Molycorp, Washington, PA where the first large batches of 50+ lb. ingots of Cerium, Lanthanum, Samarium, Gadolinium, and Praseodymium were produced in the free world and were materials of strategic importance to the US Department of Defense; and - from 1984 to 1988 as Operations Manager, Magnesium Alloy Products, LA with responsibility for the production of quality critical Aluminum and Magnesium castings for the US Air Force, Army, and Navy.       Reversed the erosion of customer base by eliminating quality, metallurgical, and on-time delivery problems.  Reduced scrap rates from 31% to below 2% for problem parts. Increased from zero to 100% on-time delivery on problem parts and exceeded the benchmark by 25% in wear performance. Reduced raw material costs by 35%-40% by proper utilization of revert mix. Increased operational efficiencies by 33%.

      Owned by Neenah Foundries, Gregg Industries was forced to close due to the strict environmental EPA regulations in California. Gregg Industries was a manufacturer of gray and ductile iron components for the automotive industry.Focused exclusively key accounts such as Honeywell, Mexicali which were in jeopardy due to quality, and missed deliveries.  Reduced scrap from 36% to below 2% resulting in 99%+ on-time delivery of specific problem components. Earned Kudos from Honeywell and invited to conduct on-site training seminars to the Engineering Group on the metallurgy of cast metals and alloys. Developed a rapport with Honeywell personnel and became their point man. Was subsequently asked to extend the seminars to include presentations on good Manufacturing and Machining practice. Show less

India was selected as the target because of their English-speaking skills, sophisticated technology, and attention to quality and costs. Products introduced included  Sand castings to the Agricultural and the Pump & Valve industry. Permanent Mold castings to the automotive sector. Investment castings for the Aviation, ONGC, Medical, Energy, Food and Chemical industries. Developed sales plans and a Europe market strategy for component design and supply of automotive after-market components to Febi Bilstein, SAWA, Porsche, BMW and ATV’s used in the Swiss Alps for search-and-rescue missions.
