  • About me

Graduate student and full-time Mechanical Engineer with a passion for smart design

  • Education

    • Northeastern university

      2013 - 2018
Bachelor of science (b.s.) mechanical engineering
  • Experience

    • United water

      Sept 2012 - May 2013
      Network engineering intern

My first professional engineering experience was at United Water (now known as SUEZ North America), as part of a senior-year internship experience. Every week I shadowed an engineer, helped out with their workload and was able to take on a project of my own. At the time, I was interested in civil and environmental engineering, but find that the lessons I learned there are applicable in my new field. My responsibilities included:- Using the geographic information system (GIS) create red-line drawings of existing water infrastructure for local construction projects, as well as Lincoln Tunnel renovations- Designing a hazard mapping safety system for company facilities. This included site visits to United Water facilities around the county to evaluate mechanical, electrical and chemical hazards present, and then mapping out the hazards on a floor plan modeling in AutoCAD Show less

    • Gea westfalia separator, inc.

      May 2014 - Aug 2014
      Project engineering intern

After my freshman year at Northeastern ended, I spent my summer at home in New Jersey, working at a local centrifuge and decanter manufacturer. This internship was focused on project engineering and gave me an interesting insight into how large projects can come together with proper planning and good communication. Throughout my time at Westfalia Seperator, I was responsible for:- Creating project timelines on Microsoft Project- Developing packing lists for international orders using the SAP system- Researching centrifuge parts through preferred manufacturers according to customer constraints and coordinated their purchasing- Organizing comprehensive project reports for clients- Shadowing engineers on centrifuge installations Show less

    • Hutchinson aerospace

      Jan 2015 - Jun 2015
      Mechanical engineering intern

My first official Northeastern co-op experience was at Hutchinson Aerospace (formerly Barry Controls), a world leader in shock and vibration isolator manufacturing. I had the opportunity to work with both the engineering design team, as well as the product testing team, which gave me a well-rounded look at what it takes to create a vibration isolator from start to finish. My work included: -Designing a laser fixture stand to aid in collecting and analyzing vibration mode data for product development - Creating and running acceptance vibration tests for various isolators to find their natural frequency, doubling the output of the test lab- Oversaw a complicated, 12 step testing procedure to determine the center of gravity for a rubber isolator to be used for a gyroscopic sensor in a satellite. As I worked more on this project, I was trusted with running the test while the lead engineer was on vacation, saving weeks on the testing time Show less

    • Cognex corporation

      Jan 2016 - Jun 2016
      Mechanical engineering intern

For the first half of 2016, I worked full-time at Cognex, a top machine vision solution provider, learning under a team of talented optomechanical engineers, electrical engineers and optics specialists, in an environment where company culture was at the forefront. My duties included:- Designed, machined, and constructed a variety of camera mounts to replicate customers' setups and help our computer engineering team troubleshoot their issues.- Designed and machined kinematic mounts to accurately hold products in place during quality control testing- Devised a testing procedure and manufactured a fixture for an adhesive material properties test for new product development.- Worked in Solidworks to prototype a design for a new machine vision camera, and created an Excel-based calculator to calculate optical geometry and quickly iterate through designs. - Daily cleaning and maintenance of the in-house 3D printer. Although not the most glamorous sounding job, as I cleaned and fixed the machine I gained a much more intimate knowledge of the process of 3D printing that influenced my future designs. Show less

    • Irobot

      Jan 2017 - Jun 2017
      Mechanical engineering intern

I had the opportunity to spend six months working alongside a highly motivated team at one of the country's top consumer home robotics companies working on a new product line. The work I did included: - Designing mechanical assembly for battery chargers to be implemented in lifetime testing fixtures in China and the US, removing downtime needed for charging robots- Designing and manufacturing test fixtures to be used in lifetime testing on prototype motors- Assembling new robot prototypes, as well as fixing broken prototypes with a variety of mechanical, electrical, and computer issues- Coding an Arduino based software and designing and implementing an electrical circuit to create an expressive, emotional robot platform. - Presenting at weekly design meetings with other interns. Not only was I able to get valuable feedback on designs I was working on, but it also helped with my presentation skills and being able to explain my design thinking to people who weren't actively involved in my project.
