  I had the honor of teaching the PAL program, Project Accelerated Literacy. We selected students who would benefit from an extension of the kindergarten day immersed in literacy activities. We created new curriculum for our program as well as for the entire school district's kindergarten classes. I also taught regular AM kindergarten in the mornings, then PAL in the afternoon. I team taught with a Reading Recovery teacher who taught the AM PAL students. We shared the classroom. My last year at Channing I taught two sessions of Kindergarten. Show less

  I have taught all subjects at the 3rd grade level; reading, writing, spelling, math, science, and social studies. I teach the adopted Illinois Common Core State Standards, which align to Common Core nationwide. I also use the Eureka Math program developed by the state of New York. I have worked as a third grade teacher since 2004, I also taught 3rd/4th multi-age classes for three years. I planned for each grade level when it had to be separate, like math. I continually created new study themes that were appropriate for the students' ability levels in my class. I individualized as needed. School year of 1999-2000 through 2002-03. Worked with a wonderful team, we team taught three groups of 5th graders. We rotated teaching Science, Social Studies, and alternated switching teaching of math and literacy. We created academic activities what enriched the students' knowledge and challenged them in an annual end of the year game show to demonstrate accrued knowledge. What a riot it was teaching 5th grade!
