      Bookkeeper Assistant

As a bookkeeper assistant I established timelines and scheduled my clerical and accounting work to meet specific deadlines on a daily and monthly basis. I kept the office very organized to try and make it user friendly and to maintain good functionality. On my first review my supervisor said I got along well with all the different personalities and people from other cultures. There were 95 employees that worked in twelve departments. On my own initiative I studied to become a Master Gardener to enhance my customer service skills. This certification enabled me to field horticultural questions on the phone so the sales staff could focus on customers outside. I altered my schedule during peak seasons to assist the cashiers on weekends. They needed help answering the phones so they could focus on checking the customers out faster (the lines were very long). The ability to shift gears and juggle multiple tasks was an essential skill while handling various bookkeeping and clerical duties. Duties included: answering the phones, accounts payable/receivable, wrote checks, swapped out cash and emptied cash drawers, handled change orders, petty cash, data entry, invoices/statements, reconciling statements, ordered pizza on weekends and planned holiday lunches, managed reservations for fall hayrides and coordinated activities with other departments, purchasing and maintaining company clothing, filing, mail, faxes, ordering and managing supplies, managed two-way radios and sent damaged ones in for repair. Enumerator- Field Division

I delivered the 2010 Census questionnaires in Roxbury, N.Y. which is located in the Catskills. This location is rural and we just received the heaviest snow fall of the season. My crew leader said I was the only one that showed up properly dressed for work in those conditions (four feet of snow-waist high). After the snow cleared you could see questionnaires hanging eight feet high in the pine trees because the enumerator could not reach the house for delivery! The U.S. Census is an official count of people living in the United States. It is used to determine the number of seats each state is entitled to in the U.S. House of Representatives. Enumerators exchange information and documentation with the public to update data on the population. This position required the ability to work independently and precisely follow detailed rules, regulations, and procedures. It also required good map skills, tenacity in rugged terrain, and well developed interpersonal skills to communicate with diverse populations. Each day I met with my crew leader to pick up and drop off completed assignments and my travel log. I planned a schedule based on location maps to canvas my assigned areas in a timely and efficient manner. I collected demographic information through interviews, observations, and by surveying locations. Then I compared and verified what was on the ground to the Address Listing Page and the Block Maps. I updated them accordingly: adding or deleting map spots and assigning new addresses or deleting addresses not found. Show less

      Sales Associate-Annuals, Houseplants and Herbs

It was a delight to work in the Annuals greenhouse as a seasonal sales associate from April to August while I was on break from college. I was able to utilize my Master Gardener training from Rutgers and nine years of experience working at Rohslers garden center to assist customers with annuals, houseplants, herbs, vegetables, succulents, tropicals, and citrus trees. I helped them locate plants in the greenhouse and provided growing and plant care information. In 2014 I handled the purchasing for houseplants and herbs; received and unloaded carts several times a week, priced the plants and then created attractive displays. This position required excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational and time management skills to carry out multiple tasks simultaneously while attending to the needs of customers-our number one priority! This position was physically demanding because it entailed unloading carts with up to 600 plants from the delivery truck and pushing them to various locations in the greenhouse to unload them. I walked 10,000 steps or more daily and wore the tread off of my new hiking shoes each summer!I enjoyed assisting customers and plant connoisseurs with questions, horticultural requirements, and special requests. It was a pleasure working with multi-cultural employees and customers, all sharing their enthusiasm for gardening. Show less
