Investigated the oceanographic conditions that drive population replenishment of marine rockfishes. Formed interdisciplinary research teams to study fisheries oceanography, larval ecology and marine chemistry. Supervised 10 undergraduate researchers, managed complex datasets, and developed a novel method to track fish movement in coastal upwelling systems. Identified the biological and oceanographic factors that affect larval growth and survival of marine rockfishes. Used otolith microchemistry and laser ablation to study how oceanographic currents facilitate or limit larval settlement to nursery grounds. Used inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry to study the trace element chemistry of upwelling regions.~ Show less
