      Horticultural Assistant

The Mosher Lab of the Plant Sciences Department focuses on the study of RNA-directed DNA methylation. My first couple of months consisted of sowing and watering plants. My responsibilities quickly grew into assisting the Research Specialist with laboratory procedures and testing. Such tasks consisted of the purification of plasmids for DNA sequencing, harvesting reproductive tissue from Brassica rapa for RNA databases, conducting complete inventories of all seeds and chemicals within the lab, and researching grafting options with Brassica rapa. The last year-and-a-half involved screening two thousand plants with ethyl methanesulfonate for DNA mutagenesis Show less

      Engineering Intern

Call & Nicholas is an international mining consultant company that specializes in geological and geotechnical engineering. I have gained experience in the lab and office settings. Within the lab, I used ASTM standards to conduct soil classifications and determine rock strengths. In the office, I was responsible for reviewing oriented core data, using QGIS to display displacement vectors on slope maps, projects in MinePlan, conducting slope stability analysis in Slide2D, and observing map changes of underground mine crosscuts with Cloud Compare. I also gained experience in technical writing, which involves interpreting laboratory data, creating figures and tables, and concisely displaying information. Show less
