    • Kingston University - Company

      Jul 2016 - Sept 2016
      University Researcher

I was employed to create GIS maps of two areas in the Kingston Upon Thames borough. I sourced outdated paper copies of the area and combined this with online GIS systems and my own data capturing, to create an accurate visual representation of the areas, as requested by the local authority for emergency planning purposes. I created these maps to be easily understood, amended, and manipulated so that it can be easily maintained and updated to suit current needs.

      Mar 2017 - Apr 2020
      Emergency Response Officer

My role has two main aspects. Firstly is the line management of more than 50 emergency response volunteers across a geographically diverse area. I'm responsible for inducting, training, and supporting them in their role to support people in crisis at local, and national, emergency incidents.Secondly, it is my responsibility to engage with partner agencies and other organisations within the Thames Valley region, to promote and encourage partners to utilise the skill set of the BRC during times of crisis. I'm responsible for attending external agency meetings, such as the Local Resilience Forum, and an the co-chair for the LRF's Voluntary Sector Panel which aims to promote partnership working between category 1 and 2 responders with voluntary agencies.Alongside this, I am an active member in several national Task and Finish groups set up to act on lessons learned from the 2017 major incidents, and ensure that the BRC can support the most people in the most effective ways.I'm also part of an on-call rota as area duty manager for 10 counties and responsible for overseeing the operations of the ER service, and be the first point of call for partner agencies and volunteers during this time.During major incidents, I have also utilised my JESIP and CCA learning from university and this role, to operate as an operational and tactical commander when required.
