      Research Assistant

I work as an undergraduate research assistant at the Fioravante lab at the Center for Neuroscience. Our lab aims to trace long-range neural circuits between the cerebellum and emotional and reward centers in the brain. My current project involves studying non-motor functions that are regulated by the cerebellum, such as motor learning, affect, and learned fear. I am currently studying projections from deep cerebellar nuclei (DCN) to parabrachial nuclei (PBN), which we believe is involved in nociception and the extinction of learned fear. I use optogenetics in typical behavioral paradigms to study the effects of neural inhibition on behavioral outcomes. I am involved in all parts of my project, from stereotaxic surgery to running behavior trials to analyzing data following experiments. Show less

As an academic tutor at the Academic Assistance and Tutoring Center at UC Davis, I tutor several subjects. These include neurobiology, psychology, writing, computational linguistics, and other courses. I am primarily a writing tutor, which allows me to apply my abilities as a strong writer to a variety of topics and student populations. Working with students with different backgrounds and levels of knowledge has allowed me to engage with unique tutees, as well as with content from various different fields of study. Show less
