I am an ornithologist and conservation biologist with a wide range of field research experience in the Tropics and the Mediterranean. My main research interest is to understand the specific ecological aspects of African birds to implement effective solutions for their conservation. I am particularly attracted by the challenges of implementing research and conservation in developing countries and finding trade-off solutions between development and conservation. My research work involves testing old and devising new methods for estimating species abundance, particularly in low-income countries, where resources and technical skills may be short.I am also interested in the modelling of the population dynamics of threatened species, and in how this may help to inform the conservation of those taxa endangered by the harvest for the international wildlife trade.
