  To provide specilaist technical support within the School of Chemical and Process Engineering (SCAPE) and also responsible for the operational management and day-to-day running of a number of the School's laboratories. Assist postgraduates and postdoctorals with research project work. Design, construction, modification and repair of laboratory/experimental equipment. Supervision of technical staff and students whilst engaged in research laboratory activities in designated areas. Advising/training technical staff and students on matters of technique and general use of equipment. Liasion with outside agencies, equipment suppliers and repairers. Maintenance of laboratory equipment and maintain records on test, repair and calibration of equipment in designated areas. Provide research and consultancy support to other departments/organisations as and when directed. To test all portable electrical equipment (P.A.T testing) in accordance to the regulations. Estimation of forward requirements of materials/compounds and standard equipment. Safe disposal of chemical waste within specified guidelines. Responsible for security and legal conformity with regards to health and safety issues, hazard, risk and COSHH assessments for designated areas.
