After gaining valuable investigative, security and intelligence experience with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigations and the US Marine Corps, I was recruited by the FBI. During the past 20 years, I served in Supervisory, Assistant Legal Attaché, and Special Agent positions, in the US, Iraq, Lebanon, and Afghanistan. My leadership roles ranged from opening the FBI’s first new sub-office in 20 years, to establishing a Joint Terrorism Task Force, creating the North Star Border Corruption Task Force, leading the Minneapolis Hazardous Materials Response Team and reshaping the FBI organizational structure and operating processes in Iraq, and supervising the FBI's HUMINT mission at US Embassy, Kabul, Afghanistan.I take great pride in my contributions to the safety and security of the United States and its people, assets, natural resources, and intellectual property. My team and I have successfully investigated and prosecuted crimes involving murder for hire, kidnapping, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, embezzlement, bank robbery fraud (bank, Medicare, mortgage, and Internet), human smuggling, and child exploitation. I also provided professional services and assistance to Federal, state, municipal, and international agencies. Show less Led a cross-functional team consisting of 13 special agents, 4 victim specialists, 3 professional support professionals, and a task force officer located throughout the State of North Dakota. Opened the FBI’s first new sub-office in 20 years to address an increase in criminal activity caused by the explosive economic growth in western North Dakota. Assessed need for an on-the-ground presence in the region to meet the FBI investigative priorities in both the Criminal and National Security Programs. Developed strategies to identify, assess, prevent, protect, and mitigate risks, threats, and vulnerabilities to safeguard people and assets. Overcame initial local resistance to a Federal presence by garnering support from the oil and natural gas industry through frequent communications with local partners, external agencies, and the private sector. Built a human intelligence collection platform consisting of covert, overt, and liaison sources to address multiple threats to various industry sectors. Developed partnerships with leading computer experts to create security systems and analyze malicious code to mitigate threats to digital infrastructure that could affect commerce’s proprietary information.Utilized inspirational leadership to mentor team members on investigative and prosecutorial planning while reinforcing the team concept to consistently produce highly effective and results-driven employees. Provided expert situational-leadership to the Safe Trails Task Force, ad-hoc Joint Terrorism Task Force, as well as the Border Corruption Task Force focusing on the FBI mission and philosophy while reinforcing a collaborative environment of close relations and information sharing with other federal, state, local, and international law enforcement, and the intelligence community.
