Project manager with responsibility for budget, schedule, and milestone deliverables. Additional responsibility for identifying opportunities and securing the work for the team. Specific expertise includes:1. Managing computational simulations of human physiology to quantify changes and risk associated with long duration spaceflight.2. Conceiving of and fostering new technology development including fluorescence-based reusable lab on a chip, broad spectrum ultrasound for quantifying bone health, pharmaceutical manufacturing in resource poor environments using in situ resources, and techniques enabling ultrasound devices to withstand the radiation fields outside of low earth orbit.3. Technology identification and development via fostering partnerships and guiding university senior capstone projects. Show less Optical Engineering:1. Microscope engineering specialist for developing the Light Microscopy Module now operational onboard the International Space Station.2. Developed phase shifting shearing interferometer3. Developed fiber optic ruler for measuring microliter fluid volumes4. Schlieren optical systems to quantify flame spread and turbulence onset5. Lens design code standardization issuesPrincipal and Co-Investigator:1. Comparative Soot Diagnostics: First reduced gravity test of NASA's smoke detectors for space vehicles, including quantifying changes in fractal number between microgravity and normal gravity generated sot2. Phase-shifting point diffraction interferometry3. Onset of turbulence in microgravity Show less

      Debate Coach

Debate coach responsible for approximately 30 students competing in Lincoln-Douglas debate, Public Forum debate, Student Congress, and United States Extemporaneous Speaking. I assist students in literature research, data interpretation, developing arguments, writing formal position papers, cross examination techniques, and effectively presenting the most significant issues in competition, all within formal time constraints. In regular season competition, students regularly earn trophy level recognition. State qualifiers every year since 2006, with students at the state level earning trophy level recognition in Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and Student Congress. National qualifiers in Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, and Student Congress, with a 7th place finish nationally in Student Congress and a 5th place in Lincoln Douglas debate. Show less

      Project Manager, Space Communications

I manage the SCaN Center for Engineering, Networking, Integration, and Communication. (SCENIC) In this role, I lead a team developing a web-based environment to analyze current space communication systems and develop conceptual designs for new systems to meet mission requirements. We are also adding modules to quantify reliability/risk, and network performance. We will also enable the capability to add cutting edge technologies to communication systems so our tools can quantify performance improvements Show less

Glenn Research Center Human Research Program Manager

I manage the GRC portfolio that supports NASA's Human Research Program. We develop space flight hardware to quantify health status and provide care. We develop and deploy compact devices to provide astronauts the exercise required to preserve muscle, bone, and fitness during long duration space missions. We develop computational simulations to quantify human risk associated with exploration missions, and develop computational simulations of the effects of spaceflight on human physiology and anatomy.
