      Provided leadership and project management support for patient safety and quality initiatives in surgical inpatient and outpatient areas.• Used Safety Event Reporting System data to make improvements in medication safety practices and device-associated pressure ulcers.• Obtained grant funding for a multidisciplinary workshop on effective and compassionate communication. Trained 60 clinicians. 98% of participants would recommend the program to colleagues. A three-month follow-up survey demonstrated that participants were using techniques learned in the workshop.• Conducted a qualitative study on pain management for surgical patients, driving the development of new communication practices regarding expectations for pain management.• Participated in a collaborative regarding standardized communication for patient handoffs, establishing best practices and shared experiences. Patient care failures decreased by 20%.• Conducted a quality improvement study on readmissions due to dehydration for patients after tonsillectomy. A new IV hydration protocol was implemented as a result. Readmission rate decreased 82%.
