Jun 2018 - Aug 2018Procurement Masters Summer InternI was chosen as one of four Masters students to join the Bayer US Procurement Masters Leadership Development Program. There I aggressively pursued internal consulting roles within Bayer’s global (1500 personnel) Procurement Department. During the internship I had free reign to interview any personnel (achieved 60+) including up to the executive level. I completed 13 projects in 10 weeks, ranging from project management to internal auditing to design and development (product management) of a machine learning internal chatbot project. Among these projects there are a few I would like to highlight. I obtained ownership of a category strategy research project investigating an issue related to contract manufacturing of consumer products at the global level and then presented my research report to senior level staff. I also achieved a project management role for a software system development project. There I designed the system, identified needed requirements, developed a budget, engaged relevant teams, and negotiated with developers, where I saved 10% of the value of the contract for Bayer. Additionally I prevented an imminent supply stockout by identifying and analyzing raw material suppliers, thereby saving an undisclosed amount of money and establishing a new supplier partnership for Bayer. Finally, I identified an information sharing gap within the organization. I developed, championed and launched a solution in the form of a speaker series, a process that took all 10 weeks and dozens of interviews and design sessions. My first event featured a VP level speaker and 50+ guests. There were many more lessons, opportunities and achievements that occurred over the course of this internship, more than I could record here. All teams were focused on highly technical enterprise architecture (EA) and information technology (IT) tasks. - Managed a project which ingested and analyzed complex databases, built a sustainable data set, and constructed a product providing data visualizations and custom current state and target state enterprise architecture views. Product required close engagement with IT and EA SMEs and involved the analysis of thousands of products in use at the IRS as well as the latest in target state architecture strategy. - Served as PMO Organizational Readiness Lead for a large scale enterprise container-based services project. Identified and developed all needs and opportunities around process documentation and/or marketing and executive briefing material. Grew team from a single individual (me) to 5 as a result of advocacy and workstream opportunity growth. Team was primarily responsible for executive level communication including presentations, marketing and training material. Material complexity ranges from internal best practices guidance to high-detail technical process documentation including abstract graphics and images stringing together disparate but related concepts to form a cohesive narrative for the platform team. - Also served other roles including Product Manager for an enterprise strategy product, SME for an enterprise architecture project and an IT modernization project, and a product owner for a critical enterprise architecture product which tracked and reported on every IT application, service and hardware piece for the IRS Show less - Managed a major IRS EA product and helped move the product from an annual PowerPoint locked publication to a modern data-oriented continuous service. - Served as an IRS EA subject matter expert (SME) and technical consultant for a major modernization project. Tasks included developing a strategy for modernizing a 60 year old system while integrating the solution with ongoing and upcoming tangential modernization initiatives. Solution accounted for the latest in industry best practices and avoided any interruptions for the filing season critical service. - Stood up a new strategic group tasked with advising on modernization of IRS systems and providing architectural analysis for future IRS projects. Key tasks included responding to enterprise strategic direction from IRS executive leadership and Federal mandates, setting enterprise architectural direction, and managing alternative analyses for target state projects and products. - Managed communications, outreach and planning for a major technical governance board as the project manager. Dec 2022 - Jan 2025Manager, Consultant- Project Manager, FDA PDUFA VII Cloud Assessment: Led a team of consultants and SMEs to conduct an enterprise assessment of the FDA’s IT environment. The goal of the assessment was to identify challenges, barriers and benefits of cloud technology at the FDA, especially as it related to interactions with industry partners. The methodology used to conduct the assessment included conducting 74 interviews with FDA personnel, gathering more than 1300 data points, and using those data points to draw conclusions into a 60-page cloud assessment report. The report provided recommendations on 14 subject areas, including cybersecurity policy, enterprise processes, organizational strategy, and the efficacy of certain types of technology, and served to inform FDA leadership as they continue to update and implement their cloud IT strategy. - Quality Control Workstream Lead: Eagle Hill is a major partner in support of FEMA's FQS training development. As a part of this team I not only provided direct quality control subject matter expertise but also helped to develop a scalable quality control process for use by the larger Eagle Hill team. The plan helped scale the team up from 1 to 5 full time quality control experts, enabling rapid training and onboarding. Additionally, I helped developed guidance, checklists, training videos, and other artifacts in support of this contract and its expansion. - Project Manager, FEMA NRH Communications and Outreach Support: I led a team in support of the NRH, a major FEMA emergency management service application. Deliverables included four major National-scale webinars focused on the NRH and its component systems, a series of 1-page slicksheets designed as marketing material for new and existing NRH users, and the development of presentation material for use at major conferences and events.
