    • Murray Edwards Engineering Society

      - Jun 2022
      President

Running the Murray Edwards College Engineering Society to help build a community of engineers within the college and build support networks between older and younger students to allow older students to support newer students with their studies. This was particularly complicated due to many students studying remotely during the pandemic, resulting in a greater focus on student welfare and maintaining community to ensure students who may not have otherwise had the chance to meet students from other years had access to that advice and support. • NHS

      - Nov 2021
      Student Consultant

I was a key member of a student team working with the clinical team at Addenbrookes hospital on a complex problem of analysing the flow of COVID tests through the hospital from the Emergency Department in order to identify bottlenecks and potential solutions to allow for patients test results to be received faster allowing patients to be admitted to appropriate wards within the hospital and aid in freeing beds within the ED and reducing further transmission.Due to Limitation in taking in person observations of the situation this involved detailed analysis of anonymised patient admission data and test results to identify points of change that could be both implemented in the short term to handle the immediate situation and risks of lack of beds within the ED as well as options to improve long term sustainability of the ED’s ability to handle testing for COVID as well as seasonal flu and RSV testing. Jan 2022 - Mar 2022
      Student Consultant

I led a student project working with the medical engineering team at Addenbrookes hospital looking at the optimisation of process flows and material flows through the department to reduce the turn around time on maintenance and repairs of medical Equipment. This involved identifying issues found by staff that had previously not been considered and providing evidence to determine the true impact of these problems, identifying challenges with training and the workspace allowing for an improvement in the workspace which allowed for a reduction in the time equipment spends within the department and allowed more high priority items to be returned to medical use. This project also required a great degree of people and change management in ensuring staff where onboard with the suggested changes and could see the benefits they offered so were invested in trying the potential improvements. • Medical Device Company

      Mar 2022 - May 2022
      Student consultant - Masters Project

As part of my Masters project I worked with a medical device company to introduce the potential of machine learning to explore a previously unsolved problem. I used machine learning in the form of random forests to create both a classification and regression tool using Python and Oracle to read data from a sample of the production database, and predict the output of a statistical test from various process inputs, as well as determine whether a particular test subject would be part of a certain classification of results. This tool and the documentation created for it will allow for further exploration of machine learning problems and was designed in a versatile way to allow it to be applied to other process inputs and statistical outputs. Suggestions where also provided to the company as to how to best utilise the tool on a less limited dataset to provide further results and to verify the results which were found.
