  Finance Director for Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), part of a senior team that transformed the strategy to lead the innovation and sustainable development across the agriculture, land and rural sector, growing turnover by 25% to over £100 million.SRUC is an organisation in the midst of considerable transformational change. As part of the Executive team and lead of the Finance team of 30+ staff, I played a key role in managing this change. Influencing the future strategic direction was balanced with careful management of a high cost operating model. Plus, developing the finance team to create a strong, value-adding function that better supports the organisation was all part of the ongoing journey.SRUC is a diverse organisation with education across the whole learner journey (FE, HE and PG), significant research activity (£25m+) and a varied commercial proposition across consultants, vets, industry spin-outs, farms, a golf course, national equestrian centre, wigwams and more, so every day was interesting and brought a new challenge! Managing a £75M+ cost base, leading a significant change management programme, implementing a new ERP system and setting up a new finance team to support the organisation. The opportunity to drive commercial revenues and optimise the cost base to reduce the draw on the public purse presents a great challenge.
