After a brief stint of self-study at TechSkills and a couple of Microsoft certifications, this is where I was given the chance to sink or swim. I started out in Tech Support, with the delusion that I would become a developer. Luckily, the good people at Data Dynamics noticed that I wrote a LOT of KnowledgeBase articles, and pulled me into the newly-formed User Education department. It was there that I learned all of the ins and outs of technical writing. I will always be grateful for the opportunity, for the perfectionist, cutting-edge development practices I learned, and for the amazing and talented people I now count as friends. Show less

I documented one stand-alone .NET shipping application, and five Dynamics GP EDI modules in one HelpStudio project. Each of the EDI modules had two versions, so this single project had twelve build profiles with the internal one. I put in a lot of internal training and setup documentation and created an internal help file that professional services staff could use as a reference. Alas, once I finished all of the released products and got down to the one that was still in development, I was laid off along with four other employees. In retrospect, vSync's 10% reduction in staff was a precursor of the recession we have now. Show less

Created online help and integrated, context-sensitive help for a Visual Studio reporting component. This was a contract on which I mostly worked from home, and overlapped my first two months at Honda. It took me a month to force myself to get on the computer in the evenings again after all that screen time!

This was a six-month contract at Honda of America, Mfg. to write courseware for product lifecycle management software (Teamcenter UA). I worked on the Visualization course, the Process Planning course, and the Ergonomic Assessments course. My contract was renewed for an additional month to update a course on using MS Project with Clarity.

I was manager for a while, but gladly turned it over after GC bought ComponentOne. Now I get to focus on writing good docs. I worked on product documentation for Visual Studio developer components, as well as marketing materials.

As part of the ActiveReports Product Unit team, I created and reviewed product marketing content, including web site pages, blog articles, video screencasts, and case studies. I also created and reviewed product samples, and worked with developers and designers to create informative and visually appealing samples and demos. I reviewed product documentation for the English edition, and monitored product forums and public exchanges such as Twitter and StackOverflow. I also attended trade shows and represented the product and engaged customers with demos, and worked with the PM team on public webcasts.I worked remotely from Columbus and traveled to Raleigh and to trade shows as needed, and reported to the ActiveReports Global Product Manager, Akinori Ono, in Sendai, Japan.
