      Quality Control

-Collected water samples from storm sewer outfalls for the analyses of: E. coli, Biological Oxygen Demand, Chemical Oxygen Demand, Phenols, Total Nitrogen, Total Phosphorous and Metals. This was done in order to find spills and cross-connections to the sanitary or combined sewers.-Acquired additional water samples depending on the color, odor and transparency of the samples taken: Volatile Organic Compounds, Total Suspended Solids, Oil and Grease, etc. Any infractions to the storm sewer by-laws could result in damage to infrastructure and the environment. -Determined priority outfalls that needed extra water sampling and scheduled the time, route to take and what to pay attention to.-Updated the team’s sample results in Microsoft Excel regularly, discussed priority outfalls and compiled my team’s data for a Quarterly Report.-Wrote in a legal log book to be used in court if needed. Took legal samples, preserved them on-site and prepared Chains of Custody for Lab Analysis. -Drove Toronto Water Vehicle to storm sewer outfalls each field day. Regularly checked the stocks of supplies and filled out orders for supplies.-Responded to a Spill of Concrete into a Combined Sewer; told the worker to stop, clean it up and fill out a Spill Report. Caught a Company Discharging Water Illegally to a Catch Basin leading to a Storm Sewer, without a Permit or Agreement; had them stop, issued a Spill Report and eventually a By-law Officer issued the company a Notice of Violation to the Sewers By-law. Caught a Water Truck stealing water from a fire hydrant and told him to stop immediately because his permit expired the week before; I then notified the area By-law officer.-Conducted construction site inspections with project managers in Toronto at many stages of development (Pre-, Post- and During Excavation).-Prepared a Summary of the 2015 Toronto Beaches Blue Flag Bacterial Results for all of the beaches in Toronto for Municipal Counsellors.
