Authors such as Arundhati Roy and Michel Tournier are exponents of this metamodern trend, which values the spirit and the individual's aspiration for self-realization. This trend is more obvious recently, but the present valorisation of self-realization or self-fulfilment has been prepared over centuries. William Blake is an interesting case in point as he opposes rather vehemently the modern reliance on reason (which at that time meant the exclusion of emotions and imagination) and the unqualified trust in science and technology that ensues, while proposing instead a model of the self as the equipose of diverging agencies.
