As part of my role I was responsible for composing letters and sales quotes through the use of audio-typing and shorthand dictation. I also telephoned potential customers to arrange and confirm appointments. During periods of sickness and annual leave I also covered the reception desk, meeting and greeting customers and showing them how to use various pieces of telecommunication equipment when required. Sept 2003 - Oct 2006
      Nursery Nurse

As a keyworker in a small nursery I was responsible for a small group of children maintaining their learning records and preparing lessons that followed the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Each week was based around a topic including discovering about different religious festivals and different foods as part of raising cultural awareness among the children with each staff member rotating in planning activities and learning goals following the curriculum including myself. I also worked on an individual basis with children with special needs using a selection of pictorial aids to assist in day to day activities, which also helped the children participate fully in classroom. The nursery catered for children from 3 months old until school age but also ran an after-school and holiday club for children up to 13 years of age which I also assisted with.Working in this environment helped my confidence grow through activities like daily story-time, which involved reading aloud to the children, and parent consultation evenings where I had to discuss the children's development with parents. • Flints Public House

      Oct 2006 - Oct 2011
      Licensee

I ran a small public house with my husband for 5 years serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments to the public. It was a local pub and I held a food hygiene certificate and catered for several pool and dart teams. As licensee it was my role to ensure the staff were trained and aware of current legislation regarding the sale of alcohol. I was also responsible for ensuring that all the correct licences were maintained and all the accounts and receipts were prepared for the accountant.Being polite, patient and having good listening skills were important characteristics to have when dealing with the public in an area where confrontational issues could arise. The experience learnt from this environment has helped improve my ability to assert myself when necessary and also recognize "trigger factors" which will help when dealing with people in future career choices.
