      TREK is a first year orientation program at the University of Vermont where 60 student leaders take around 360 incoming students out in the backcountry setting before classes start in late August. The goal of the program is to allow students a chance to meet new friends, distress and ask questions about UVM in an informal setting. There are 6 different types of trips that students can choose from, these include backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, sea kayaking, white water kayaking and road biking. Each trip is a 7 day 6 night expedition that happen in 3 different states. Roles: -Organize trip itinerary for over 60 leaders and 360 students across 3 states in the Northeast for a 7 day 6 night expedition-worked with Costco and other local food suppliers to calculate accurate amounts of food for 420 people -Organize leaders to work well with each other during a week of training before program begins, create team dynamics, group management, Leave No Trace (LNT) practices, team building etc.-Work with local park organization to obtain permits for camping and traveling in a backcountry setting in Vermont, New York and Maine. -Manage various transportation companies to meet dates and pick up times for all members. Buses, mini vans and 12 passenger vans. -be a first responder if any medical/motivational issues arise, aid in getting student to the care that they need. -Respond to emails and calls from students and parents about concerns and questions. -Conduct interviews and pick teams of 2 leaders. Show less The Outing Club is a student run club where we send out over 70 trips into the backcountry each semester. The club gets about 2,000 students outdoors in a variety of different technical areas including backpacking, rock and ice climbing, backcountry skiing and snowboarding, white water kayaking, canoeing, sea kayaking and trail running.
