    • Portland Observer

      Dec 1994 - Jun 1995
      Cadet Journalist

I worked at the Portland Observer - a tri-weekly newspaper in Portland, Victoria, Australia - as a general news journalist. In my time there I wrote many general news articles, produced a weekly page for youth, wrote features and interviewed a number of prominent people, including Dean Jones (one of my teenage sporting heroes!), Don Burrows, Tommy Emmanuel and two gorgeous elderly gentleman who discovered the Princess Margaret Rose Caves. Illness cut my time in Portland short, but it was a great experience nonetheless. Show less

      Project Manager

I managed a research project for the Centre for Rural & Regional Health which involved an evidence-based review of all studies worldwide looking at Recruiting & Retaining Rural GPs, assessing the efficacy of policies/interventions that have been implemented to improve recruitment and retention. A full report was then written on that topic which was published by Dr John McDonald, myself & Stephen Carroll. A community-based intervention to assist recruitment and retention of GPs in rural areas was also implemented (after I had left the job to do my PhD). Show less

    • Navarre Football Netball Club - Celebrating 100 Years - A History (Book)

      Jan 2009 - Apr 2019
      Author

In April 2012 I launched the 200-page full-colour book - "Navarre Football Netball Club - Celebrating 100 Years". This book was a project completed for my hometown community of Navarre, Victoria, Australia (Pop: 80) and all the people ever involved in the Navarre Football Netball Club. From the start of the process in 2009 - collecting, scanning, editing old photos, newspaper articles etc - to the completion of the book, I spent 3 years creating this tribute to the town and sporting club I love.I completed and published the 2nd Edition of the book in 2019. Updating of the book is always ongoing.Apart from the creation of my gorgeous daughter, this book is the thing I am most proud of creating so far in my life. It involved 12 months of solid writing, video and phone interviews with over 20 people, and learning to design and craft a book on Adobe InDesign. We have just sold out the first 200 books printed and are working on a second printing. Edit and update in progress!! Show less

    • The Wellness Quest

      Dec 2015 - now
      Wellness Blogger & Coach

Currently on hiatus from this work. I am shifting my focus from illness management to wellness enhancement, and with this shift, I am creating a whole new website dedicated to all areas of wellness - physical, emotional, intellectual, business, environmental, spiritual, financial and so on. This project is a slow burn and will be in conjunction with my current work over on TheGetUpAndGoGuru.com and the development of a coaching podcast and related products with a fellow life coach in California. My first blog series on The Wellness Quest is focussed on using the wisdom of the Tao Te Ching to explore how implementing this wisdom into my life daily will/may impact my life. I have a small group of people who are joining me on this journey, and the group is growing. Please join in if you're interested - more info at http://www.TheWellnessQuest.net/MyTaoYearThis site will eventually grow into a hub of wellness blog posts, podcast interviews and valuable content on all areas of wellness for all of those who are on a wellness quest - whether that is because they have a low level of wellness currently (ie illness) or that they just want to continue to enhance their current level of wellness.
