      Managing Attorney-Civil Rights Department/PI

Managed the largest team in the office consisting of 3 paralegals, an associate and 2 junior associates. Caseload was comprised of approximately 150-180 auto and premises cases (both NY and NJ) and approximately 70 civil rights cases. The civil rights department developed into what it is today as a result of my passion and dedication to the cause. I drafted all of the federal complaints, motions, Rogs and oppositions to Rule 12b6/56 motions and was the sole attorney who attended our federal court appearances, both eastern and southern districts (and take and defend depositions). All of our cases spanned from inception through to verdict or settlement. The civil rights workload is intensive and requires due diligence, attention to detail and constant communication with experts. In addition to federal court, I had court appearances and oral arguments in Supreme Court and when not in court, I took and defended depositions.I planned, prepared and attended mediations and arbitrations, which included instructing and editing all submission packages/memos. I have put together Records on Appeal, appellate and respondent's briefs.I was responsible for working with the pre-litigation department to review and round table cases to determine whether or not they should be put into suit and litigated.I did intakes of potential clients, specifically complex premises and victims of false arrest and/or police brutality.I drafted or edited threshold oppositions, helped to review and prepare the physician and radiologist affirmations and client affidavits.I prepared cases for trial, determined whether or not we are ready to file a NOI, and prepared the trial binders for both liability and damages. I negotiated cases for settlement both in and outside of the courtroom with defense attorneys and insurance adjusters. This also included working to reduce the advance loan company interest that has accrued and any outstanding balances from medical facilities and/or Medicaid. Show less
