      Facilities energy management intern

In this role, I attended multiple construction progress meetings with my supervisor, the head of energy and utilities. The project was the installation of a new steam and water line on campus. I was responsible for documenting progress on construction with daily site visits. In a meeting with key stakeholders, I presented my ideas for a new interface for the public facilities sustainability website. I also did two research projects for my boss into potentially using geothermal power on campus and the effectiveness of a potential solar power project. I updated Excel spreadsheets on gas, oil, and water consumption for the entire campus. The spreadsheets needed to be connected in various ways to be able to synthesize results on multiple central spreadsheets that could then be used by members of facilities management to make adjustment to our usage and run financial analysis on current fuel use. I also updated the campus pipeline map on AutoCAD which involved hours of collecting data on changes made by facilities since the map was last updated. This involved going over old maps and going to different sites to make sure the map was accurate in recording the length and size of all pipes on campus. The other intern and I also ran a project where we set up solar thermal panels to heat water for the geodesic dome greenhouse on campus. This involved preliminary calculations on efficiency and effectiveness. Show less
