As a Career Assistant at the Luther College Career Center I assisted Career Center faculty with numerous projects throughout the school year to help students figure out their next steps after college. From gathering and analyzing statistics about previous Luther graduates to recording and filing data from current students, I constantly collaborated with staff to finish projects in a timely and efficient manner. In addition to this, I also met with students to help them write and proofread their resumes and cover letters to apply for both internships and full-time positions. Show less

      Health & Benefits Intern

As an intern in the Health and Benefits Consulting division at Willis Towers Watson, I had the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from actuaries, pharmacists, and plan administrators while working on projects for client companies to minimize health plan costs while providing optimal benefits to employees. Some tasks I completed on a daily basis included completing monthly and quarterly budgeting dashboards, sorting and formatting client data in Excel spreadsheets, using cost and plan information to calculate plan values, and modeling clients' plan cost projections for the upcoming year of implementation. I also had the chance to sit in on several meetings with clients, giving me insight into the actual process of client consultation. In addition to this, I had the opportunity to work on a cumulative intern project for the last month of my internship in which my fellow intern and I were given plan data from a real client and asked to create and present a new hypothetical plan design that best fit the client's needs and demographic. By the end of my summer at Willis Towers Watson I had gained ample experience in critical thinking and problem solving, collaborating in a team environment, organizing and interpreting raw health care data, and communicating with clients. As an analyst at Willis Towers Watson I have the opportunity to partner with a diverse group of colleagues with a multitude of specialties within WTW’s Health and Benefits Consulting line of business to produce superior work for clients. The basic function of my role is to analyze and clean client healthcare data to produce deliverable decks and models that predict healthcare spend and help employers maximize their benefit offerings. Throughout my time at WTW as an intern and as a full-time colleague I have been able to grow both my technical abilities while also strengthening essential professional soft skills. Through daily data work I have gained a strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and have learned how to utilize various technical tools used for tasks such as modeling and underwriting. Additionally, I have developed aptitude in professional communication through daily email, IM, and phone correspondences with vendors and WTW colleagues of all levels. I also get to hone my flexible problem-solving skills on a daily basis in order to come up with timely and effective solutions to fit each individual client’s requests and needs. My favorite part of my job is getting to collaborate with my highly specialized and knowledgeable colleagues to tackle challenges head-on and see complex client projects through from inception to delivery!
