      Fire Hose Technician

My main duty as a fire hose technician was to clean, pressure test, maintain, and package forest fire hoses after they were used to fight fires. When fire hoses were not in high demand, my role also extended to maintaining and packaging other forest fire equipment. This position required a high level of physical activity in an outdoor environment, and paid a piece-rate wage to keep workers motivated.

    • Metis Nation of Ontario

      Jan 2008 - Jan 2011
President of the Metis Nation of Ontario Youth Council (MNOYC)

I am the past President of the Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council (MNOYC) and the past Youth Rep to the Provisional Council of the Métis Nation of Ontario (see www.metisnation.org). I was elected by the Métis youth across Ontario and served a three year term. In this capacity, I spoke for the Métis youth and their concerns for the present and the future. As president of the MNOYC I organized monthly conference calls for the council, recorded minutes of these meetings, and addressed any individual concerns coming from youth who would contact me by e-mail. During the calls each regional youth rep would give updates about what is happening in their communities, then I would update them with what is happening on a more political level with the PCMNO. One of my largest contributions to the MNOYC was being part of the development and implementation of a Roles and Responsibilities document which clearly outlines the duties of each youth representative on the community, regional, and provisional council levels. This document was extremely helpful to all youth councils because prior to the document, little work was being accomplished which was due to confusion amongst our roles and responsibilities. The document is still being used today with only slight changes being made at our annual general assemblies. Show less
