  While at Rossall I was fully involved in all aspects of school life, organising an exchange to Limousin, taking part in Duke of Edinburgh and going on the Battlefields trip to Belgium (Dutch at university came in very handy) and Northern France. I taught French and German across the secondary age range preparing pupils for GCSE, A level and IB examinations. I was a houseparent for 3 years, having been deputy for 2 years in Osborne House and went on to look after James and Anchor Houses, with a brief sojourn covering in Rose House. Show less

  Languages tutor and trainer

  I still offer tuition for secondary students in preparation for GCSE and A level French and German, but as a self-employed languages tutor and trainer I have taught Dutch to chemists whose company headquarters is in the Netherlands, run after-school French clubs at various primary schools and also offered training to primary teachers as MFL became compulsory at Keystage 2. I ran a half day course for Stockton Borough council, developing a tool for measuring progress for its primary MFL teachers and offering ideas and strategies for enthusing Keystage 2 learners.   French coordinator

  At Yarm at Raventhorpe I taught French to children from nursey (rising 3) to Y6 (age 11). To motivate and encourage them I devised schemes to complement their topics, incorporating grammar, vocabulary, games, multi-media and lots of singing. For the youngest learners I worked with their teachers to reflect their EYFS topics and the ideas of EYFS, allowing them to discover French beyond my lessons as they looked for the French songs on the Storyphones. With the KS1 pupils we concentrated on Fun French, largely learning vocabulary, but remembering rainforest creatures or Great Fire of London vocabulary through songs, in some cases putting together my own lyrics. With KS2 we had more of a focus on grammar, but used the topic of Vikings to introduce infinitives as we built Viking dragon boats, explored family relationships via the Tudors and designed and described rationing gardens when learning about WW2. On the geography side we explored Africa, looking at Francophone countries, looked at our local area and learned to describe it, made a tourist brochure and studied the weather. Show less
