      The Katz lab is mainly focused on using epigenetic mechanisms to explore aspects of Alzheimer's Disease. With the end goal of understanding the function of LSD1 within Alzheimer's (a histone demethylase) proven to be involved in the propagation of Alzheimer's, the organisms (mice and C. elegans) studied by the Katz lab have epigenetic mutations on histone modifying. genes that limit their ability to properly control gene expression leading to germline genes being inappropriately misexpressed in the soma.
