  Student intern - "water quality: testing mapping and analysis"

  The International Center for Clean Water Research has provided an excellent opportunity for the students to work with great research scholars in IIT Madras Research Park. The water Quality: Testing, mapping, and analysis is a Government project undertaken by the ICCW. In this internship, the students are instructed to collect water samples in and around Chennai City to test the water quality. The samples collected are from Bore, RO, pond water, etc. The water samples are tested under 14 different parameters like nitrite, nitrate, fluoride, Chlorine, DPD, etc. The students tested the water sample, mapped out the places with high permissible limits, and reported it. The bacterial contamination of water samples has been tested through H2S vials and noted that even RO water has bacterial contamination and measures were taken by changing the filters. Students had hands-on experiences with a pocket spectrophotometer, a new launch by the IIT team. Also, the students gained the knowledge of handling various analytical instruments like HPLC, Gas Chromatography, SEM, AAS, etc. Show less
