  I worked as a temporary laboratory assistant in the uranium/thorium (U-Th/He) thermochronology lab for the geology department at CU Boulder. In this position, I was tasked with breaking down rock samples and preforming mineral separation to extract datable mineral types from larger stones using density, magnetism, and heavy-liquid separation techniques. The mineral samples were then given to the U-Th/He laboratory for dating.

  I worked for New Earth for multiple summers (2019, 2020, 2022), during which my daily responsibilities included planting and tending gardens and trees, weed control and edging, and installing landscape design elements. I was frequently tasked with working properties in the Boulder/Denver area on my own as well as while training and supervising a team of 3-5 employees, developing my skills both in self-reliance and leadership.   At HRS, I was responsible for acquiring and classifying historical data from wells across Colorado for use in subsurface modelling as well as organizing documents and testimonies for water rights litigation.Additionally, a significant portion of my time was spent assisting in the field during a monitoring well drilling operation in Brighton, CO. I conducted sieve analysis of core samples and organized the data to develop a model for the potential drilling of high-yield water sources for the community of Brighton.My brief time at HRS taught me much about how to transition from field to office work, as well as further developing my time management and interpersonal abilities. My independent work while conducting sieve analysis helped reinforce the importance of being careful and meticulous both in the field and in the office. Show less
