Carey's fateful devotion to the difficult and demanding extra duty assignment is deserving of special recognition. The Maryland Natural Resources Police Underwater Operations unit is a specialized team of divers that conduct search and recovery operations below the surface of Maryland's waterways in support of field operations and investigations. The underwater environment of Maryland is murky, dark and cold, and even under the best of circumstances gridded searches are conducted by touch rather than site due to low visibility. Diving operations are often difficult and dangerous, but also crucial to the marine related operations of the agency. The underwater operations unit routinely provide specialized services such as body recovery, evidence and property recovery, fisheries surveys, underwater investigations, underwater maintenance and side scan sonar operations, and does so professionally and proficiently. In acknowledgment of Cpl. Carey's professionalism and dedication to duty, the Maryland Natural Resources Police proudly present this certificate of appreciation. Show less
