      Production Operative

My main role here was operating machinery in the high speed production of foods. I had to hit a hourly target of production. I also learnt to think on my feet to overcome objections, and to fix machinery in a quick and efficient manner. Adding to this, I was also trained as a QA, which consisted of carrying out the hourly checks of the produce to make sure they were fit for distribution to our customers. This role involved checking the weight, shape and temperature of the produce, and checking that there were no foreign bodies in the produce i.e plastic or metals. I also checked the quality of the packaging to make sure it was suitable for transportation to our customers. I was a member of the Continuous Improvement Team, which was a group of people who met weekly to brainstorm and implement ideas to help reduce downtime in production. Show less

      Laboratory Technician

I worked in an Organic Extraction Laboratory, with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditation. I performed various solvent based extractions, following different SOP’s using various matrices. I carried out general lab duties, such as ordering stock, putting deliveries away, equipment calibration, batch tests on solvents and re-agents to check they are suitable for lab use. I also liaised with analysts, project managers and my superiors via the LIMS system, or in person regarding the extractions in progress. Show less

      Mar 2015 - Oct 2015
      Environmental Engineer

This role involved the cleaning and chlorination of cold water storage tanks in BUPA care homes to aid in the prevention of bacteria growth such as Legionella, E-Coli, and Pseudomonas. This was a very active role as it involved working in roof spaces and confined spaces.

      Oct 2015 - May 2016
      Laboratory Technician VWR Lab services

My role here involved working within Oncology laboratories over 3 floors, two Bioscience and one Chemistry floor. As a lab tech I ensured the customers (AZ staff) had all they required for their day-to-day activities within the lab such as solutions, media, consumables, solvents and plastics. This involved liaising with VWR media prep, stores and glass wash teams as necessary, sometimes reacting to ad hoc requests ensuring the customers could complete their experiments under challenging circumstances.I dealt with the disposal of solvent waste, as well as clinical waste, and Cytotoxic waste via AZ and SHE approved disposal methods on a daily basis. I was also involved in ordering more specific/miscellaneous chemicals for my customers, and responsible for storing them appropriately upon arrival on site at the correct temperature and storage conditions. This involved both cold room stock control and liquid nitrogen handling. As a VWR employee I also implemented stock rotation and maintaining stock in a LEAN fashion, which means a safer, cleaner, easier working environment for all my customers on site. Show less
