      Co-Founder
    • American Herbal Products Association (AHPA)

      Jan 2013 - Dec 2019
      Cannabis Committee Chair

I served as voluntary Chair of Cannabis Committee which set guidance for regulators for cannabis and hemp products. Among the many important and successful guidelines developed by the committee through the years, I am most proud of my vision adopted and supported by AHPA and Americans for Safe Access (ASA) to see safe standards for products and processes to ultimately protect patients. This led to the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) granting ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation to Americans for Safe Access (ASA). This is the first accreditation ever issued to a product certification body in the cannabis market.ASA is a member-based organization founded in 2002 that seeks to ensure safe and legal access to cannabis for medical purposes and research. Back in 2016, A2LA and ASA partnered on a collaboration to develop the Patient Focused Certification (PFC) program, based on standards our committee created since 2014 during my leadership of the AHPA Cannabis Committee. What started as a supplement to ISO 17025 for cannabis testing labs to demonstrate a dedication to patient safety, has grown into a more comprehensive certification and consulting program that offers training, business services, company certifications. With the ISO 17065 accreditation, ASA can now deliver PFC certifications that confidently identify reliable and high-quality medical cannabis products, business and services. My leadership of the Cannabis Committee lasted six years and during that time many significant accomplishments happened through the hard work and dedication of many individuals who gave untold hours of their time in conference calls and in meetings, most people unpaid and unrecognized. It is they who deserve recognition, not the leadership, and we patients are forever grateful for their service. It was during this time, working around such wonderful people and great professionals, that I knew the future of cannabis patient safety was in good hands. Show less

    • Cannabis Awareness Program

      Jun 2020 - now
      Associate Founder

The Cannabis Awareness Program focuses on the health issues surrounding cannabis use, especially among adolescents, and offers education and awareness to high school students, parents and guardians, and teachers. Pilot programs have been successfully conducted at St. Francis de Sales School in Toledo, OH, my alma mater, The program focus is primarily on the unintended effects of cannabis on the developing brain with emphasis on the respiratory, reproductive, and other health aspects of cannabis use. A major segment delves into substance use and abuse issues, along with historical uses of cannabis and current legislative developments across America and the world. Pre and post knowledge tests are administered along with goal setting initiatives. The science based program can be custom tailored but is generally delivered over six 30 to 45 minute sessions, either in-person or virtually. Our team is comprised of the best and brightest researchers in the cannabis field, and a full roll out is expected soon. Show less
