      Served aboard the USNS Choctaw County, a 338' Expeditionary Fast Transport Vessel as an engineering cadet. Completed pre-start checks, starting and stopping of Isotta Fraschini ship service generators and MTU main engines.Successfully performed periodic maintenance of main propulsion engines and ship service generators.Shifted to and from shore power along with loading and unloading ship service generators.Maintained Alfa Laval fuel oil purifiers through disassembly, cleaning, overhaul and reassembly. Led potable water onloads and CHT offloads.Participated in fuel transfers, sounding tanks and monitoring vents.Assisted crew and vendor with replacement of jet-drive hydraulic slew rams along with ride control pedestal bearings. Clarke, a 767' Steam Bulk Carrier as an engineering cadet.Maintained D-type boiler system including blowing flues, cleaning igniters, blowing down transmitters and replacing burner guns.Tested and treated boiler water for pH, sulfites and dissolved oxygen.Assisted in servicing ship service turbo generators, cleaning exciter brushes and examining slip rings.Manually throttled the plant while underway and maneuvering in and out of port.Participated in loading of heavy fuel oil, sounding by ullage and loading of bulk lube oil.Operated and monitored shipboard systems on a rotating watch. Including boilers, turbines, condensate, feed water, lube oil, turbogenerators, fuel oil, air, and electrical systems. Show less

      Holds position as First Assistant Engineer aboard the M/V Manitowoc, a 630' Diesel Bulk Carrier.Proactively manages the engine room and delegates work among engineers.Provides training and coaches new engineers aboard the vessel, ensuring all safety policies are met sufficiently.Demonstrates proper function of equipment, shutdowns and alarms for USCG personnel and ABS surveyors.Proficiently ballasts the vessel at both loading and unloading docks.Ensures safe operation of fuel bunkering, transferring fuel oil, along with waste and lube oil.Effectively diagnoses main engine propulsion issues as they arise, plans and makes repairs as necessary. Successfully performs fuel injector swaps, valve adjustments, cylinder head replacements, pulling pistons, and replacement of cylinder liners on ALCO engines. Show less
