A practice theory approach was used to reveal structures which inform accepted practices by Twitter users as part of an online education community. An analysis of the survey responses yielded teachers’ enjoyment of Twitter chats and professional value in collaborative, sharing and inclusive practices of Twitter chat communities as well as connecting with others in collaborative partnerships outside of chats. Findings had implications in highlighting the role experienced tweeters can play in coaching and mentoring those new to Twitter and emotionally supporting them to feel part of the Twitter chat community. More research is needed to better understand the structuralisms of Twitter communities and best practices for engaging in Twitter chats. Show less
