      PhD project in the area of sustainable chemistry developing novel terpene-based polymers. Gained experience in polymer synthesis (thiol-ene photocuring, polycondensation and ring-opening co-polymerisation), organic chemistry, catalyst synthesis and material characterisation.Thesis: “Sesquiterpenes as Building Blocks for the Synthesis of Bio-based Polymers“

      Visiting Researcher

      Internship at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) as part of my PhD. Worked on a multidisciplinary project to produce novel bio-based polymers from algae and terpene feedstock.

      Kelpi is a world leader in sustainable biomaterials with a seaweed-based coating for paper and card which replaces fossil fuel plastics in packaging for food, drink, and toiletries. Kelpi, a certified B Corp, is now working with some of the world’s largest brands to scale up production of our biodegradable coatings and address the global microplastics problem.Worked on innovation, synthesis and characterisation of renewable polymers and composites from seaweed and other bio-based feedstocks. Developed films and coatings for packaging applications.Led and managed Kelpi's R&D lab team.Engaged with clients in the food & drinks and cosmetics sector to tailor polymer properties to their specific needs. Acted as scientific lead in client co-development projects and ensured delivery of project goals.Worked in a multidisciplinary team alongside chemists, engineers, biologists and entrepreneurs.Member of the management team and actively involved in decision making to shape the business.
